How to Clean Your Bathroom with Norwex: My Complete Bathroom Cleaning Guide

Bathrooms! Your favorite room to clean, right? ? How can you get your bathroom really clean without annihilating yourself with harsh fumes and unnecessary chemicals?

Enter Norwex!! I’ve been cleaning bathrooms with Norwex since 2009, and while some of the products I use have changed over the years, so much of what I originally taught about cleaning a bathroom with Norwex still applies today. You really can clean an incredible amount of your bathroom with good microfiber, water and a surprisingly simple routine—and then bring in a few specialty cleaners when the job actually calls for them.

For this updated bathroom-cleaning guide, we’re keeping it REAL! And when I say real, I mean I purposely walked into one of our bathrooms that had NOT been cleaned before the end of summer break, turned on a black light and even pulled out protein swabs to see what we were actually dealing with. ? I’m not particularly proud of what we found, but it certainly made for a good demo! LOL.

In the video above, I’ll take you through the entire bathroom with me—from mirrors, countertops and sinks all the way to the toilet, shower, tub, grout and floors. You’ll see exactly what I’m using, where I use it and, just as importantly, when I think a specialty cleaner is actually worth bringing into the mix.

What Do I Use to Clean My Bathroom with Norwex?

One thing I want to make clear right from the beginning is that you do NOT need every Norwex bathroom product to clean a bathroom well! What I’d recommend depends on the surfaces in your bathroom, the problems you’re trying to solve and, of course, what you already own.

For my regular bathroom-cleaning routine, you’ll see me use some combination of the EnviroCloth®, Window Cloth, Ultra Scrub Cloth, Bathroom Scrub Mitt, 3-in-1 Bathroom Cleaner, Multipurpose Everyday Cleaner Concentrate, Toilet Bowl Cleaning System, Utility Brush and Norwex Mop System. If hard water or mineral buildup is part of your bathroom-cleaning challenge, then I may also bring out the Norwex Descaler. And there are a couple of other tricks in my bathroom-cleaning arsenal, including Bright & White and, yes, I’ve even been known to pull out a toilet pumice stone. ? We’ll get to those!

My First Rule of Bathroom Cleaning: Clean Cleanest to Dirtiest

Here’s one piece of advice from my original bathroom-cleaning article that definitely hasn’t changed: clean cleanest (i.e. mirror) to dirtiest (i.e. toilet). I don’t want to clean around the toilet and then take that same cloth over to polish my faucet or wipe around my sink! So I generally start at the mirror and sink area, work my way around the bathroom, and save the toilet for last. I also dedicate certain cloths specifically to toilet cleaning, which is where my color-coding system comes in!

I love color coding my microfiber. Years ago, when our four boys were little, the yellow EnviroCloths had a VERY special job at our house… cleaning up after four adorable little guys around the toilet!! If you’ve raised boys, you may know why we chose yellow. Sometimes aim comes secondary to distractions. LOL. You certainly don’t have to use the same colors I do, but having some sort of system can make it much easier to remember which cloth you use where.

How I Clean Bathroom Mirrors with Norwex

I generally start with the mirror because it’s one of the cleanest surfaces in the bathroom, and this is where my longtime “Bert & Ernie Cloths” combination comes in: the EnviroCloth and Window Cloth. Use a damp EnviroCloth to clean the mirror and then immediately follow it with a dry Window Cloth to polish it. That’s really all I normally need for my bathroom mirrors—no bottle of glass cleaner required!

And don’t stop with the mirror. As you’re making your way around the sink area, that dry Window Cloth is fantastic for polishing faucets and other shiny surfaces after you’ve cleaned them. This is one of those simple Norwex combinations I’ve taught for years because the two cloths just work so well together.

Cleaning Bathroom Countertops and Sinks

Next I move on to the sink, faucet and vanity. For many everyday bathroom surfaces, a damp EnviroCloth may be all I need, but in my current bathroom-cleaning video you’ll also see me use Multipurpose Everyday Cleaner Concentrate. Its probiotics create enzymes that help break down soils, and the formula continues working to remove grime and odors from cracks and crevices after you’ve finished wiping.

One reason I especially like it in this particular bathroom is that we have granite countertops, and the Multipurpose Everyday Cleaner can be used on granite as well as a variety of other surfaces. Of course, always follow the current product directions and make sure any cleaner you’re using is appropriate for your particular surface.

Don’t Forget the High-Touch Areas

Once I’ve cleaned the mirror, sink and countertop, I work my way around the room before heading toward the toilet. Think about all of the things hands touch that we don’t necessarily think about when we say we’re going to “clean the bathroom”—cabinet handles, drawer pulls, light switches, doorknobs, the toilet handle and other high-touch surfaces.

These aren’t necessarily the things that look dirty, but they’re definitely part of a thorough bathroom-cleaning routine. It’s also one of the reasons I love having a good microfiber cloth in my hand rather than feeling like I need to grab a different bottle of cleaner every time I move to another surface.

How I Clean the Toilet with Norwex

Okay, ready to tackle the toilet? ? Obviously, you won’t want to clean inside your toilet with an EnviroCloth, so that’s where the current Cleaner-Dispensing Toilet Brush comes in. The cleaner-dispensing handle allows the cleaning solution to dispense through the brush head, and the two different types of bristles help get around the bowl. For the outside of the toilet, I use microfiber, working from the cleaner areas toward the dirtiest areas and saving the really questionable parts for last. And after raising four boys, let’s just say I have plenty of experience with those questionable parts. ?

My Bucket-Flush Toilet Cleaning Trick

Here’s another trick that appeared in my original bathroom article and still works beautifully. If you need to get below the normal water line to tackle buildup or a toilet ring, quickly pour a bucket of water into the toilet. This can cause the toilet to flush while leaving the water level lower in the bowl, which allows you to actually get your cleaner and brush onto the area that was previously underwater.

It’s such a simple little trick, but it can make a big difference when you’re dealing with that stubborn buildup right around the water line. You can see me demonstrate exactly what I mean in the video above.

Another Toilet-Cleaning Option: Bright & White

Here’s another option that some people absolutely LOVE: Bright & White Laundry + Home Booster. Yes, the laundry product! Bright & White has uses beyond the laundry room, and some Norwex users love using it as part of their toilet-cleaning routine. It can also be used along with the Toilet Bowl Cleaning System, which gives you another option depending on what you already have in your home.

This is a good example of why I don’t like telling people there is only one “right” Norwex product for every job. Depending on what you already own and what you’re dealing with, you may prefer Bathroom Cleaner for your regular toilet routine, Bright & White for some extra cleaning power, or a more targeted solution if the real culprit is mineral buildup.

What If I Have a REALLY Stubborn Toilet Ring?

Sometimes what you’re seeing in a toilet isn’t simply dirt that needs more cleaner—it may actually be mineral buildup, which changes the problem you’re trying to solve. I’ve been known to combine Descaler with a toilet pumice stone when dealing with a particularly mysterious and stubborn toilet ring. Yep, I said it… a toilet pumice stone. ? This was actually in my original bathroom article years ago, and I’m still not above using one when the situation calls for it!

The key is that a pumice stone is an abrasive tool, not an everyday toilet-cleaning method. It needs to be used carefully and kept thoroughly wet, and you’ll want to follow the manufacturer’s directions and make sure the particular pumice product is appropriate for your toilet surface. This is definitely a use-at-your-own-discretion move and NOT a Norwex recommendation. I’m simply sharing that there have been times I’ve resorted to it when a toilet ring was especially stubborn—like when we bought the ranch!

There’s actually a bigger cleaning lesson here that applies throughout the bathroom: sometimes the answer isn’t simply more cleaner. Everyday soil, hard-water minerals and stubborn deposits are different problems, and understanding what you’re actually trying to remove can save you a whole lot of unnecessary scrubbing!

Cleaning the Shower and Tub with Norwex

Next up is the shower and tub. The Bathroom Scrub Mitt has been one of my bathroom favorites for YEARS, and it’s perfect to hang right inside the shower for a quick wipe-down after a shower. It can do an amazing amount with water alone, and one of the easiest ways to keep your shower from becoming a giant cleaning project is simply to keep up with it.

My husband is actually wonderful about wiping down our shower regularly, and that little habit makes a BIG difference. When I want some additional cleaning power, I can pair the Bathroom Scrub Mitt with the 3-in-1 Bathroom Cleaner, and I also like having the Utility Brush available for grout lines, corners and those little areas where a mitt simply can’t get in as well.

Bathroom Cleaner vs. Descaler: Which One Do I Need?

This is an important distinction because Bathroom Cleaner and Descaler aren’t necessarily solving exactly the same problem. For normal bathroom cleaning, the 3-in-1 Bathroom Cleaner may be exactly what you need. But if I’m staring at serious hard-water or mineral buildup, that’s when I start thinking about Descaler.

Descaler is my more powerful, targeted option when I’m dealing specifically with stubborn mineral deposits and hard-water buildup on an appropriate surface. I don’t necessarily reach for it every time I clean the bathroom because I don’t need it every time. I think of it this way: Bathroom Cleaner is for regular bathroom cleaning; Descaler is for those “Okay, this stuff is STUCK!” situations. ?

That distinction becomes especially important if you live somewhere with hard water. Sometimes we keep scrubbing harder or applying more general-purpose cleaner when what we really need is a product designed to address the mineral buildup itself. And stay tuned, because I have a VERY real-life Descaler demonstration coming. Our ranch has a glass shower door that is practically volunteering for the job! ?

How I Clean Bathroom Floors with the Norwex Mop

And then we wrap everything up with the floors. I generally dry mop first, because I’d much rather pick up hair, dust and debris while everything is dry than turn it into wet bathroom-floor sludge. ? Then I switch to the appropriate wet mop pad and finish the floor.

One thing I’ve always loved about the Norwex Mop System is its size and maneuverability. It’s large enough to cover an area quickly, yet it maneuvers easily beside and behind most toilets. I said almost exactly that in my original bathroom article all those years ago, and it’s still one of the things I appreciate about the mop today. And after 17+ years of cleaning with Norwex, I still don’t want to clean bathroom floors on my hands and knees if I don’t have to!

Which Norwex Bathroom Products Do You Actually Need?

This is where I want to make something really clear: you don’t need everything I’ve mentioned in this article. What you need depends on your bathroom, what you already own and what problems you’re actually trying to solve.

If you’re just getting started, an EnviroCloth and Window Cloth can accomplish an incredible amount. You can clean mirrors, sinks, faucets, countertops, high-touch surfaces and the exterior of the toilet with a very simple microfiber system. If your shower and tub are your biggest pain points, I’d look more closely at the Bathroom Scrub Mitt and Bathroom Cleaner. And if hard water and mineral buildup are your nemesis, Descaler may be much more important to you than it would be to someone who doesn’t deal with those issues.

Can I clean my entire bathroom with just an EnviroCloth and water?

Bathroom Cleaner is a great choice for regular bathroom cleaning, while Descaler is the more targeted, powerful option I reach for when I’m dealing with stubborn hard-water and mineral deposits on appropriate surfaces. If you’re continually scrubbing something that simply won’t come off, stop for a minute and ask yourself whether you’re actually dealing with dirt—or whether you’re looking at minerals.

Can I use Bright & White in my toilet?

Bright & White Laundry + Home Booster has uses outside of the laundry room, and some people love using it as part of their toilet-cleaning routine. It can also work with the Toilet Bowl Cleaning System. I always recommend checking the current product directions for amounts and approved uses, especially as products and instructions can change over time.

Can I use a pumice stone to remove a toilet ring?

I’ve personally used a toilet pumice stone for stubborn mineral rings, but pumice is abrasive and should be treated very differently from ordinary bathroom cleaning. Keep it thoroughly wet and follow the pumice manufacturer’s directions to make sure it’s appropriate for your particular toilet surface. This isn’t something I’d pull out for everyday cleaning, but for the right kind of stubborn mineral deposit, I’ve definitely been known to use one!

How do I care for my Norwex bathroom cloths after cleaning?

This part is pretty simple: Wash them in the washer. Dry them in the dryer. ? It’s hard to put it into words, but once you have a system, you really can get through the bathroom faster than you might expect! Start cleanest to dirtiest, let your microfiber do the work it was designed to do, and bring in specialty cleaners when the job actually calls for them. Most importantly, don’t assume that every stubborn spot simply needs more elbow grease. Sometimes knowing whether you’re dealing with everyday soil, soap buildup or hard-water minerals is half the battle.
