New 2010 Fall Products are Here!

New 2010 Fall Products are Here!

I’m excited to unveil the NEW 2010 Fall Products!  Children are our future!  We want them to learn safe, chemical-free ways of cleaning, as well as instilling an enjoyment of cleaning.  Well Norwex has once again came with the answer.  Give them their very own Norwex products so they can learn and love to “Norwex the house”!  The children mop is a favorite, to be sure, as well as the mitt that is sized just for little hands.  And the kid-friendly colors are great!  The kids back pack is the perfect place for them to carry “their” cleaning supplies, and also perfect for lunches or trips to the park.

The veggie and fruit scrub cloth is back by popular demand!  This cloth has been proven to remove some pretty nasty stuff from our fruits and vegetables.  It’s also great in conjunction with our Fresh Wash.  For certain produce (i.e. broccoli), you need the Fresh Wash.  This cloth helps remove the “bio film” from our fruits and veggies!

The Lint Mitt is perfect size for tucking in your purse and taking on travel.  It works great!

The Norwex Washing Net bag is great for storing clean Norwex cloths, as well as for collecting, laundering, and drying the soiled cloths.  Very sturdy and well made, this bag will make laundering your Norwex microfiber even easier!

Last but no least… the suede, antibac make-up removal cloths.  These are great for sensitive skin around the eye area (as well as for those of you with sensitive skin!).  Stains wash out more easily than the Body Pack Cloths due to the tight weave.  These are perfect for traveling, too!

Call or email me today if you have any questions about our new products.  And feel free to order online or via phone or email.  I look forward to assisting you!

Sanira Toilet System

sanir_toiletThe Sanira Toilet System is great! I love that it doesn’t get all orange and yucky like typical toilet brushes. It actually looks very neat next to my toilets. The cleaning solution and the brush are produced from environmentally-friendly raw materials. The cleaning solution is vegetable-based with coconut oil and a naturally-occurring sugar surfactant. The brush doesn’t contain metal parts. Using only 3/4 teaspoon weekly (compared with 2T of traditional cleaners) the solution will last approximately 1 year! The Sanira solution is not poisonous nor corrosive. And it breaks down within 48 hours compared to other solutions that need at least 30 days!!   Might I add… I think the Sanira solution smells wonderful! :)  Diluted in some water, it’s a great way to freshen up the toilet area in the bathroom!

Here in Cedar Rapids, customers often mention the “pink ring” in the toilet, as well as the pink scum that accumulates in the shower.  In my experience, this system removes that from our toilets!  Yay!  :)  I must admit that toilets can present quite a cleaning challenge sometimes, and there are times when you’ll need to pull out “the big guns” when facing a particularly stubborn toilet task.  Some people have found that the DeScaler and toilet pumice stone work great on the more stubborn stains like hard water build-up.  First you will want to pour a gallon bucket of water quickly into your toilet.  This lowers the water level, allowing your cleaner more direct contact with the porcelain.  Then you can either apply the Sanira solution full-strength & let it set for a bit, or you can apply DeScaler and let set for 10 minutes before cleaning with Spirisponge or toilet pumice stone.  (As a side note:  porcelain scratches very easily, so you would not want to use a product such as our spirinetts on your toilet!  It will scratch off the porcelain.)   The Sanira brush is different from your standard toilet brush, and takes a bit of getting used to.  I have had a couple of customers say that it does not fit well down into the “toilet hole” in some older or smaller toilets.

DeScaler has been improved- same effective formula, but clear color!

Tech Talk by Candi Bezte, Norwex Science & Technical Advisor
Norwex DeScaler now improved!

Norwex DeScaler is now improved! It contains the same basic ingredients it always has: Water, orange extract, sodium gluconate, glutamic acid, and glucuronic acid; however, it is no longer colored. It does not stain, and works as quickly as before.

A little goes a long way, and, in most instances, it takes only a couple minutes to
get the job done.

This product has proven to be fantastic at removing scale from toilets and scale
and rust from the shower. While the bad spots in the shower may take a couple of treatments, there should be noticeable improvement after each use.
Scale is a mineral deposit of calcium and/or magnesium that can leave white
spots, and/or result in a whitish crust forming on shower, bath, sink, toilet and tap surfaces etc (this buildup may appear orange in color if the water is also high in iron). Scale is not black in color and is not another word for mold – so no, this product will not likely be effective to kill or remove mold from surfaces.

Sonya here: I posted earlier about the DeScaler (http://norwexsimplyclean.com/norwex-descaler-revie/) and what an incredible product I find it to be. However, the brownish color was a put-off for some people. So once again, I commend Norwex for meeting the need, making the necessary adjustments to create a clear-colored product!

2009 New Fall Product: Bathroom Scrub Mitt

NEW Bathroom Scrub Mitt

This new Norwex product is getting rave reviews from my customers!  It has one side that is more scratchy, but safe to use on surfaces like flat-top stoves, porcelain, etc.  The other side of this mitt is a plush microfiber (not antibac microfiber in order to keep the price of this product affordable).  My customers have given me feedback that this is incredible for removing soap scum in the shower/ bath tub (with the rougher side) and wiping clean with the softer side.  For hard water build up, it works well in conjunction with the DeScaler; or for serious soap scum build up, use with the Cleaning Paste.   And feedback from my customers tells me that it’s not just for bathrooms!  :)

As with the other Norwex microfiber, this product works wonderfully with JUST WATER for general cleaning (wet & wring out well & clean your whole bathroom!).  In fact, customers are telling me it’s perfect to clean down the shower right before or after their shower.  No toxic chemicals or fumes to inhale– JUST WATER!  And super effective.  When you’re finished using the mitt, just rinse & wring out well.   Hang to dry.   Launder weekly (see Microfiber Care Instructions).

You will still probably want to keep an Enviro and  polishing clothin your bathroom for mirrors and stainless steel.  And of course our Sanira toilet system for keeping the toilet clean and smelling fresh.  These products make bathroom cleaning a breeze!!

Happy Cleaning!

Dealing with hard water

Hard water definitely poses its own challenges…
Here are some great tips!

Stiff Cloths?

Hard water can result in lime (calcium and magnesium) buildup over time. This may result in your Norwex cloths feeling harder or perhaps almost seeming to repel water and not wet as easily.  You can soak your cloths in undiluted vinegar for a few minutes, wring out well, and then launder. If you add vinegar to your rinse cycles, it may help reduce this problem in the future and will soften your other fabrics as well.  Please note: If you are still using a commercial laundry detergent which contains ‘fillers’ (read: added stiffness and static) then the vinegar will help counteract both the static & the stiffness.   Also note, we have hard water, and I was noticing that my cloths were stiffer and less quick to absorb.  Since I have been adding vinegar to my rinse cycle, I’ve noticed that they are once again soft, fluffy and absorbent.  I also LOVE to do the “Deep Clean” soak method in a concentrated bath of Norwex Ultra Plus Laundry Detergent… (“Deep Clean” = 1-2 scoops in a large bowl filled with hot water & then let cloths soak there overnight.  Then launder, but without the usual detergent since there will be quite a bit of detergent yet in the cloths.)

Stinky Cloths?

I’ve been amazed by the Norwex dish cloth and microfiber cloths because I can use them longer between laundering without them starting to stink.  The silver agent in the fibers is absolutely incredible at keeping the bacteria-count low.  However, if you have experienced some stink issues with your cloths, please read on for some helpful hints.

With any cloth that has developed an odor in which normal laundry washing does not fully remove: rinse in vinegar, then boil the cloth(s) in a pot on the stove for 10 minutes to thoroughly allow the fibers to swell open and release anything they are holding onto including anything coating the silver, making it ineffective against killing bacteria or organisms and allowing odors to occur. Then launder as normal and the cloths will be fresh. I find that I need to boil one or two of my cloths occasionally…usually it’s my own fault as I’ve washed dishes with an incorrect cloth and allowed the silver to be coated in oils that are in dirty dish water, or haven’t rinsed out my cloth well after cleaning before hanging it to dry.  Another thing to note:  when the Face Cloth is used to cleanse oily skin, it may need to be soaked in vinegar & laundered more often.  As it collects the oil from the skin, it will coat the silver in the fiber, making the antimicrobial properties ineffective.  When this happens, the bacteria can thrive.  Be sure to RINSE OUT your cloths well, wring out tightly & HNG TO DRY between uses for the best results!

Note on Well Water: Because well water does not contain any chlorine, this may result in odor issues with any cloth, including Norwex cloths.

Other Hard Water Solutions

For deep-cleaning toilet bowls use Norwex DeScaler:  quickly pour a bucket of water into the toilet so the toilet will automatically flush down most of the water.  Spray the built up area with DeScaler, let sit for about 2-3 minutes, then clean with the Sanira Brush.  A good quality pumice stone (you can find “Toilet Pumice” made just for this purpose!) is also great at removing tough stains in the toilet and it won’t scratch the porcelain (see tips below).  Another great use for the Norwex Magnet Ball is to place it in the toilet tank to soften water so that hard water stains are not left in bottom of bowl.

For tough soap scum and hard water marks in your tub and shower or any other difficult job there are a number of things which work…some requiring more elbow grease than others but all effective.

• Damp enviro cloth and some good old-fashioned elbow grease!
• Cleaning Paste and damp enviro cloth, or damp kitchen or bathroom scrub cloth, or damp white dish cloth….a Spirisponge can be wonderful to get “gunk” out of shower door tracks.
• Damp micropad
• Descaler and damp enviro cloth, blue kitchen scrub cloth or white dish cloth (amazing elbow grease in a bottle)….wet shower or tub, spray Descaler, wait about 3 minutes, wipe away easily with enviro cloth, blue kitchen scrub cloth or white dish cloth, then rinse. Use caution on grout around tiles…a few people have had concerns with staining and I’m not positive if they have left it on too long or whether it is an issue of some grout being unsealed vs. sealed.

For top load washing machines where no water softener is present, the Magnet Ball can trick you water into behaving much softer than it is. Place it in bottom of washing machine, where it can stay permanently or can be used between dishwasher/ washing machine/ bathtub. You now cut the amount of laundry detergent used in half.  Water molecules are changed so that they behave like soft water and your detergent works so much better. With a bag of Norwex laundry detergent you would normally get 40 loads from one bag in an area of hard water. With the magnet ball you will now get 60-80 loads from that same bag!   Note: do not use the magnet ball in a front load HE machine….it is not necessary and the drum spins so much faster you could damage a wing.

In your dishwasher: place magnet ball in bottom over a rung so it stays in place- and allow it room for water to pass by it (i.e. not covered/blocked by dishes!). Use 1-2 teaspoons of Norwex dishwasher detergent; no rinse agent (i.e. Jet Dry) is needed (but vinegar can be used if desired). Dishes and glasses often come out sparkling and clear without the need for chemical rinse agent sprayed all over them.

Great cleaning ideas & tips!

As always, please call me if you have any questions, or if you have a specific cleaning challenge that you’d like help addressing!   Here are some more great ways to use your Norwex products.

  • Your Enviro cloths are excellent for removing stains from carpet and upholstery.  During my demos, I’ve been amazed at what has come off my hostesses’ carpet!  Go ahead…. try it!  Norwex also has a great Carpet Stain Buster if needed!
  • The Enviro microfiber cloths come in four colors- this allows you to “color-code” your house.  For instance, you can reserve red for “bathrooms”, green for “kitchen”, blue for “windows”, etc.
  • Your Norwex mop isn’t just for washing floors!  It’s a great way to clean your walls and ceilings- simply lock the head into place (so it doesn’t swivel, as it does when you use it on the floor) and “Voila”!  The superior mop pad does an excellent job removing dust from walls (Contractors love this mop for cleaning the dust off all the surfaces before selling their homes!)  (Please note that using the mop in this way may not work if you have rough or heavily textured walls or ceilings.)
  • Along the same lines as above, the mop, when equipped with mop brackets, allows you to place a window cloth on (over the dry mop pad), lock the head in place, and clean/polish hard-to-reach windows beautifully!  The mop brackets snap on, not slide on, and once they are on, you can simply leave them there.  They shouldn’t interfere with using your mop.
  • Be sure to “unlock” your mop head before going back to mopping your floor.
  • Your damp Enviro cloth & dry window (polishing) cloth team work wonderfully to to leave your granite countertops sparkling and streak-free and CLEAN… without any chemicals or cleaners needed!
  • The Norwex Rubber Brush is excellent for removing pet hair for home or car upholstery or carpet.  It’s also great to collect dust from those corners of carpeting that your vacuum can’t reach!

Stay tuned!!  More great tips and ideas to follow!

Happy Cleaning!
